Is a more expensive detector always better? +
Not necessarily. Detector performance should be evaluated according to the intended target, environment, ground conditions, operating technology and the user's experience. The right detector is the one suited to the job.
Should I use maximum sensitivity? +
Maximum sensitivity is not always the best practical setting. Excessive sensitivity can increase instability caused by mineralization, electrical interference or difficult ground. A stable detector generally produces more useful information than an unstable detector running at an extreme setting.
Why does the same target sometimes give a different signal? +
